Spotfire is a division of Tibco and the formerly public entity went private in September 2014.

Spotfire is a data discovery and visualization BI tool and from the beginning, its focus was the pharmaceutical drug research domain. The company retains a strong presence in that market and of Tibco Spotfire’s roughly 200 customers, most tend to be in data intensive industries like life sciences, oil and gas exploration and financial services.

The product has built-in predictive analytics, an intuitive design for visualizations and excels at processing very large data sets. One gap was the absence of any report production capabilities, but the acquisition of JasperSoft in 2014 solved that issue and has resulted in a more complete BI platform with Spotfire handling data-discovery, location analytics, and mobile KPIs, while Jaspersoft provides pixel-perfect reporting and embedded analytics.
